School, Ear Infections and Strep

All summer long Lexi has been fighting a sore throat. She has been on an antibiotic at least 5 times for strep throat and she was diagnosed for the 6th time last week with strep AGAIN! Koy was also diagnosed for the 3rd time. I am going to be making an appointment with an ENT to get her tonsils out. She had tubes put in and her adenoids removed when she was 3 but they didn't take her tonsils out and I am kicking myself for it now.

At the same time Lexi was taken to be looked at I had Kayden's ear looked at because it was draining out the left ear. They said that he had swimmer's ear and gave us a RX for ear drops. We started the ear drops and in 4 days it still had not gotten any better. In fact it had gotten worse. The drainage was really thick and a greenish color and it STUNK horribly bad. On Sunday night I decided to take it him in to the ER to have it looked at. They did a CT scan and found that his whole ear canal was full of infection. It had not gotten into the mastoid bone yet, but it was close. The doctors decided to admit him so that he could be watched and to make sure that it wasn't too serious. He was treated by ENT, Renal and Infectious Disease for two days. The ENT people came and had to suck his ear out at least two or three times. It helped us to be able to get the ear drops down into his ear so it could start healing. He was also put on an I.V antibiotic at first and then they gave him an oral antibiotic that he is on now. He also had a urology appointment to discuss his reflux problem. He is suppose to go to the bathroom twice in a row so that he can completely empty his bladder. He is also going to be on an antibiotic for UTI prevention. I guess this is a fairly common thing in kidney patients.

Lexi started school on Monday. I can't believe that she is in 4th Grade. I am actually really excited because she gets to learn Utah History and about different counties. She is getting so big and so grown up. She looked so cute on the first day of school. I have our annual first day of school picture but I have lost the cord to my camera so until I can find out we are pictureless.

When it rains it pours! Yuck! I'm glad you are done with all of that. I'm sorry to hear that things have been a little rough. Is Kayden feeling better now?

Jared has been on antibiotics for UTI prevention since birth and it has worked really well at preventing them. He has had several VCUG's and they never get easier!

Are you guys going to make it to Kidney Camp this week? Alyssa was asking if Lexi was going to be there. She loves playing with her! I hope that we can see you then!
