Kayden had surgery yesterday to remove his native kidneys. The tiny ones that he had when he was born. The ones that have stopped working and have caused him problems. When he had his VCUG a few weeks ago he still had the sever reflux into his native kidneys and we decided then to not prolong the inevitable and to get them out. His nephrologist, Dr. Nelson agreed that it was a good thing and that usually those kidneys will come out in the future anyways.
So yesterday we came to PCMC to have his surgery. We got there at 11:30 in the morning and got checked in for his surgery at 1. They were surprisingly on time and actually got him started at 12:42. The tech called and updated me thrughout the surgery and let me know how things were going. At 5:42 they finished and i joined hm in the recovery room. He was doing good and responded to us. The anesthesiologist did end up pulling out a tooth because it was so loose and he was so nice to give Kayden a dollar for it.
He was taken to a room to stay the night and did really well. Today he is in a lot of pain but it is controlled with his meds. He is having some pain in his lower left side after he uses the bathroom but we think it is just the bladder shrinking down. He has been up and walking around a little and hopefully we will be able to go home this afternoon.
This kid is so very strong snd he is a trooper. He is my hero. He is so strong and brave.

He certainly is brave. When I talked with him he said he wasn't scared at all. I hope he gets feeling better soon.
What an amazing boy you have! Keep up that bravery and strength little man! We're thinking about ya!
