I work in customer service. I have worked in customer service for over 10 years. I think I am pretty good at it. I have had my share of people yelling at me over their insurance coverage or over the television bill and I have learned to deal with different situations so I know how you are suppose to treat people.
Today I had the unfortunate opportunity to have to deal with the Social Security office. I try to call my local office, but they NEVER answer the phone. I have never once talked with our local office here in Salt Lake at any time. When I had to deal with the Provo office I was able to get through and they worked with me, but not this office. So because of this I have to call the 1-800 number for Social Security so that they can pass on the information to my local office.
When I called today to report that Josh is not working and that my income is the only income that we have coming in (which sucks by the way) the lady that originally took my call was not the nicest to me and actually hung up on me. I have been dealing with SSI for 4 years I know what things I need to do and this lady was giving me information that I had never had to do in the past and I was questioning her about it. She said that I needed to send in the letter or papers that Josh got when he lost his job. When I told her that he did not receive any papers and that in the past we have never had to do that she told me that she had never heard of someone not receiving papers and not having to turn them in and accused me of lying about him losing his job. She was very rude and degrading and that the only way that anything was going to be reconsidered was for me to go into my local office and talk to them since she could not do anything which I know that this information is incorrect. When I told her that I did not appreciate the way that she was talking to me she hung up on me (which I know that she is never suppose to do according to her coworker).
So now that I have cooled down, vented and spoke to another agent that took my information and passed it on to the local office like they are suppose to, I am feeling much better and I can now go and continue on with my motherly duties.
