Of course it has been a long time since I posted because I feel like I don't have time to do anything at all anymore. So since I don't have school tomorrow and I don't have work tomorrow, I will sit down and do a long update post. I did want to just write a few things about today and then we can play catch up tomorrow.
Today I had to present Sharing Time. This weeks topic was how Jesus can heal the sick. I presented a few stories from the Bible and had the kids watch some little clips about Jesus healing the sick. The main part that I wanted to get across was that it is through faith in Jesus Christ that we are healed. Jesus still performs miracles today just like when he was on the earth we just have to have faith that he will heal us.
I then told them about when I had my cyst removed and I was really sick in the hospital. Every time I moved I would throw up. The nurses gave me every possible medication to get me to stop throwing up but nothing worked. Finally we found two guys in the hospital that were LDS and they gave me a blessing. The whole time they were giving the blessing I sat there with this strong conviction that I knew that Heavenly Father was going to help me be able to go home. I KNEW that with HIS help I would be better. Shortly after having received the blessing I was able to get up and go home. This increased my Faith in Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father.
The next story I told was about Kayden. I didn't let the kids know who it was about until the end of the story. I told them about how he was born with small kidneys and how he went through a lot when he was little. I showed them a baby picture of him and then a picture of him hooked up to tubes after his transplant. I told them that he was given many blessing that he would get better and that he would be able to get a kidney and that his transplant would help him get better. I told them that he is where he is today because of many prayer by many people. That Heavenly Father is healing him too.
It is faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ that we are healed. It is also obedience in his instructions to us. These instructions are found in the scriptures, but also instructions given by General Authorities in General Conference and in Church Magazines and other addresses.
I was reading in the Ensign today and a few different articles really stood out to me. The first one was "Teaching Our Children From the Scriptures". How we need to teach our children to feast on the words of Christ. One statement that I really like in it said that "Those who read the scriptures in their early years usually make an internal commitment to follow the principles taught in them."
The second article that I loved was "Our Parental Duty to God and to the Rising Generation". The first part was talking about setting your house in order. I felt like it was being directed right at me in the sense that I have been wanting/needing to get my house dejunked and ready for school to start in the next couple of weeks and to start working on a morning routine that will work for us. I know that it was talking mainly about making sure that we are teaching our children about the gospel, but I also felt like it was verifying to me that I need to get my house in order. (Which is why one of my first things to accomplish tomorrow on my day off is dejunking my room.) It pointed out 2 Nephi 25:26 which struck me on what I need to do with my kids more often.
Finally, the last thing that really hit me was when it talked about leading and teaching by example. This whole section was perfect mainly because I know so many people who portray that they are one way, but what they are behind closed doors or behind your back are another. "How often we see parents demand obedience, good behavior, kind words, pleasant looks, a sweet voice and a bright eye from a child or children when they themselves are full of bitterness and scolding! How inconsistent and unreasonable this is! Our children will notice such inconsistencies in us and perhaps find justification for acting in similar ways." I will add this about teaching by example not just how we live the gospel, but how we treat others, how we treat our children, if we talk about people in our homes where our children can hear. This also was touched on by M. Russell Ballard in General Conference when he talked about mothers and daughters. He talked about how mothers needed to set an example in their dress for church. He said that if the mothers go to church in sandals how can we get upset at the daughters for wearing sandals when they are only following the example of their mothers. I will also put it in the way we eat and exercise. In my nutrition class it talked about how much influence mothers/parents have on their childrens eating habit. How sometimes what is said and done can lead to either eating disorders whether it be obesity or anorexia and bulimia. We as mothers/parents need to set the right example for our children.
The last article is called "Those Who Are Different". Each of us have issues that make us different. "May God bless us to realize that an important measure of our progress in coming unto Christ is to be found in how well we treat others, especially those who are different."

The other day at church I saw a young lady with those tight leggins on under a short skirt. Being old-fashioned, the first thought I had was that she looked fine for school running on the playground and all, but not appropriate for church. I wondered why her mother let her choose that outfit for church. Then I saw the mother....same type of clothing..tight leggins under a skirt. I guess it was okay for the mom, so it was for the girl. I hated to be judgmental and felt badly about it, but I still think it is better for the playground and church should be different.
I saw a young, newly married woman at church a week ago with the leggings and skirt on. I also thought - not appropriate for church. I also thought to myself, not appropriate for that age of woman either. Cute for school age, but anything over a Senior in high school - not cool or trendy in my opinion.
