Surgery and Conference

Since our Out of Pocket Max has been met we decided it would be best to get the cyst removed in wrist now since we wouldn't have to pay for it. As I looked at the calendar I figured this last weekend would have been the best. It was fall break for me and Josh at school and it was General Conference so I could take the time off of work and enjoy the time to be able to watch conference.

Friday morning I went in and had the cyst removed and things went much better than I thought that it would. I didn't have too much pain.

Saturday morning we got up and I was looking forward to watching conference. The kids did really well and actually stayed quiet through the morning session. Here are some of the highlights from conference that I liked:

  • Sister Wixom's talk about scripture study. Start out small. Even a few scriptures a day is a good thing.
  • We aren't raising prophets, but we are raising the leaders of tomorrow.
  • Reading scriptures daily, even if just a little bit, will help kids understand how important they are.
  • Set a good example and be honest and sincere in all you do.
  • If our intent is to hold tight to the iron rod then all we need to do is start. Starting is the first step that we need to take.
  • I love President Uchtdorf! I love listening to him talk.
  • Go back to the basics. Slow down and refocus on what matters most. Pray to the Lord and find out what is the best for each of us and our family. Each family has a need that is different and we need to pray to the Lord to find out what He has in store for us.
  • Slow down, steady the course and focus on the essentials.
  • It is easy to be busy.
  • Anything taken to the extreme can become a vice, even the good things.
  • Have an Attitude of Gratitude.
  • Do not stay in negative thoughts.
  • Love overpowers jealousy.
  • We take for granted those who deserve our gratitude. Show people everyday how much we love them. We need to show others and talk to our Heavenly Father about the blessings we have and be thankful.
  • Living with gratitude is to touch heaven.
  • Parents needs to show to children love, time, how thankful they are for the gospel and how it guides their lives and to be an example.
  • How do I want my kids to think of me? Am I a good example to them.
  • We are free to chose we just can't chose the consequences. Rules are here to protect us not to harm us or to make us feel trapped.
  • Challenge: Before you act picture the savior standing there and ask: "would you do it, would you think it, would you say it" knowing that He is standing there.
  • How will we report how we have honored His name.
I hope that I can set a good example to my kids and that I can teach them the things that the Lord wants me to. I hope that they will grow up to be good kids and that I will be the parent that the Lord knows that I can be. I hope that I will be able to have His guidance as I teach my kids what is right.
