We know we are weird here in the EC.....

Friday night was Prom. Now I know that a lot of people think that our tradition for prom is weird, but that is just what it is.... Tradition. Here is the low down on our crazy Prom tradition.

The junior class learns a ballrom dance to the song that is picked as their theme for the Junior Prom. This dance is taught to ALL juniors. This isn't too strange but still alot of schools do not teach a dance to the junior class. What happens next is what most people consider really strange. Everyone in the county is welcome to come to prom and watch this dance that the junior class has practiced for the past 2 weeks. Each girl is introduced with a guy that they will be performing the dance with. They walk around the floor (this is the actual promenade) and then they exit the floor. After everyone has been introduced then the class walks back onto the floor to perform their dance. After the dance is performed then the guy escorts the girl to their fathers and the guy goes and finds their mom and then another song is played and they dance with their parents.

This tradition has gone on for at least 50 years. It is such a fun tradition and we know that many people think it's weird. Lexi loves to go and see all the girls in their pretty dresses. This year the dresses the girls were wearing were pretty modest and it was good to see that many of them upheld the standards that they were taught.

But we know that we are weird especially when we tell people that we went to watch the Prom! Don't worry after the dance the parents and other guests are told to leave so that the kids can enjoy the dance without having too much adult supervision!

Yes, the dresses were very beautiful and modest. I think my favorite was Jessica's. That deep red was so beautiful with the full white skirt. Too bad the classes are getting so small.

At first I wondered, I didn't think you had a child in high school!

That sounds like an awesome tradition.

I love that tradition!! If I was still in EC I would've went too! I'm glad to hear things were on the modest side! After living in CA next to the OC I was begining to wonder if anyone is modest anymore. Sounds like it was a lot of fun!!

I would never do that. I am glad that mom didn't force me to go to the dance... oh wait.
