A Fast One

I thought I would post something really fast. If I don't I don't know when I will be able to over the next few days.

I have enjoyed reading about everyone's first day of school and I am excited for ours next Monday. I am taking the day off of work so that I can get Lexi to school and make sure that she is o.k. and then spend the day with the boys. Our babysitter starts school on Friday. Murray District starts the Jr. High kids a day before school starts for just the 7th Graders so that they can go to their classes, learn the school, learn how to open their lockers and all that new stuff before everyone else gets there so they won't be nervous and scared. I thought it was a really good idea. Seventh grade is a scary thing.

I have applied for Child Care assistance since the last few months we didn't make very much at all and they base your income off of the previous three months. Well, with Kayden having a disability it helps us with the income limit. I have been calling workforce services everyday and rounding up the things that they are needing. Sometimes I think they find things for me to turn in so that they don't have to make a decision and pay for anything. We shouldn't have a problem of qualifying now and then in 6 months we will be up for another review. I know for sure that we will not qualify at that time, but hey it will help to have a few months where we can get caught up on things and not have to play catch up.

I think I shock people when they can't pull the wool over my eyes. I have talked further with the preschool program with Granite District and once I let them know that I know more about the developmental delay program and that I know that the district by law needs to make sure that those with special needs gets taken care of then they took me a little more serious. I just need to get his information from Emery School District (so Mom, yes I forgot the number to the district so will you email it to me so that I can get Kayden's IEP sent up here) so that I can get his info that will really help my case. Kayden has really slacked with his eating lately, in fact he lost a pound the last time he was in clinic, so I know that having some OT will really help him with his eating and in his other motor skills that he needs help with. I also want them to evaluate him for PT.

Starting next week Kayden and Koy will be going to a daycare. (If the state gets their act together and evaluates my case!) I think they will do really well. If Kayden gets into pre-school he won't have to be in daycare as long so that will help. When we went to the daycare place Koy loved being with all the toys and all the kids. I am just afraid that he is going to be a bully to everyone, but hey maybe he will learn that he can't be mean. Lexi has a friend here that attends the Boys and Girls Club of Murray and she wants Lexi to join. I am probably going to sign her up. It is only $10 a year and they have afterschool activities and it is mainly for older kids. She would only need to go there on Friday's, because her school gets out at 1:30 on Friday, and they will pick them up from school. I also work right across the street from the Boys and Girls Club so she wouldn't be too far from me.

I have a few other things that I want to write about, but it will have to wait for another time. I am hoping to be able to write about things other than just updates since I really would like to use this as a place to express myself and keep a record of my thoughts and feelings about things since that is how people get to know me and how my kids will get to know me and pass that on.

I do want to close with this, I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about how the colleges like to give out a profile about the kids that will be entering school this fall so that the professors will know what will help them connect with them. A few things that were on this profile is that these kids think watergate is a place that Monica Lewinsky lived and not a high profile scandal, these kids are the kids of the technology era and grew up when gameboys came out. These kids were born in 1990!!!! Can you believe that. I think sometimes about my own kids and how they will never know what it is like to have to wait for film to be developed. Kayden already asks to see the picture on the back of the digital camera not even realizing that 5 years ago we weren't able to do that!

I also was going through some of the ads for school and they were showing what is cool for teens this year and it was a total flashback to the 80's!!! They were wearing tight levi's with boots over the top of their jeans, they were wearing shirts with VESTS (of course the vests were the kind that were sewn onto the clothes). Have you seen the shoes that kids are wearing lately....a lot of velcro and slip ons. I could see Madonna in Who's That Girl with the black hat and the tight jeans and the t-shirt and vest. I could not believe it. They also have the leggings with the lace on the bottoms. Just wait I am sure the MC Hammer pants will be back in style soon along with Girbaud and ENUF and BUM equipment. Those were the days weren't they.

Goodnight

Tammy, LuAnn Sorensen said that your school has to request the records from our school. I know that is what happens with regular school records. So you might have to go back to the school and insist they request the records. She also said that Granite school district gives some of their money to private preschools for developmental delays. One thing you need to be aware of, with a child labled as 504 (has issues that need special consideration) the law in Utah states their needs must be met but they don't offer funding for it. So that means the money sometimes comes from the school budget and schools don't like that so they try to brush it off. Demand (in a nice way) that you get the services he qualifies for. Just tell them that you understand 504 needs must be met (if that is what he qualifies under)and smileand say you know they will help such a cute little boy. If the school says they don't request records talk to the person in the district office who is over special needs, 504, or development delays.

I toyally agree- those were the days! It sounds like that radio show was hilarious! It made me laugh the other day, when Tyler asked me what a rubics cube was...
